Cast iron – pig iron

Cast iron or pig iron is hard and brittle and cannot be forged because it contains too much carbon from the blast furnace. But you can make other things with it, like iron stoves. You can also cast steps and bottoms of baking ovens, and other things such as pots, pans, mortars and candlesticks.

When casting, the iron must be melted once again, then poured into moulds. When the iron has cooled, you just polish the surface and then, whatever you have made, is finished!
